We propose a coupled-mode theory for resonant diffraction gratings with varying period. consider diffractive structures, in which the reciprocal lattice vector, quantity inversely proportional to period, varies linearly direction of periodicity. It is shown that optical properties such structure essentially depend on period change rate. Coupled mode theory for resonant excitation of waveguiding structures
Resonant coupling of light beams via high-index media or gratings to planar waveguiding structures are of interest for both applications and from a theoretical point of view. Coupled Mode theory (CMT) can give an accurate description of the coupling process in terms of relatively simple expressions involving often a large number of coupling parameters. In this paper it is shown, using time reve...
متن کاملEffective-index method and coupled-mode theory for almost-periodic waveguide gratings: a comparison.
Contradirectional propagation through active, first-order, almost-periodic, corrugated waveguide gratings is analyzed by using both coupled-mode theory and a combined effective-index/impedance-matching matrix technique. For TE-mode operation, which is near the first-order Bragg wavelength, the equivalence of the two techniques is analytically demonstrated for shallow surface corrugations.
متن کاملPostfabrication resonance peak positioning of long-period cladding-mode-coupled gratings.
A simple, flexible method of postfabrication positioning of resonance wavelengths of long-period cladding-modecoupled gratings is proposed. This method is based on changing the outer fiber diameter. Reducing the diameter by etching the fiber in HF acid shifts the loss peaks to higher wavelengths. A shift as large as 130 nm after 5 min of HF etching was observed for our strongest grating peak, c...
متن کاملModified coupled-mode model for thermally chirped polymer Bragg gratings.
A modified coupled-mode (CM) model is proposed for the optical behavior of thermally chirped Bragg gratings. The model accounts for the axial gradient in the modulation wavenumber, which has been ignored in the classical CM model. The model is used to characterize the optical behavior of a polymethyl methacrylate-based polymer Bragg grating subjected to nonisothermal conditions. The validity of...
متن کاملA New Look at Numerical Analysis of Uni- Form Fiber Bragg Gratings Using Coupled Mode Theory
The coupled mode theory (CMT) is used to analyze uniform Fiber Bragg gratings. The multi-mode CMT is expressed as the first-order vector ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with coefficients depending on the propagation distance. We show in this paper that by changing variables, the original couple mode equations (CMEs) can be re-casted as constant coefficient ODEs. The eigenvalue and eigenv...
